Is porn a good career choice? Here’s what you need to know

A cactus doing porn

I’ve been in the porn industry for six years and have experience in most areas including technology, marketing, as an affiliate and in porn production. I’ve worked with individual models as well as being the owner of a fairly large indy porn site.

On this blog, I’m going to cover all aspects of the porn industry and selling sex. It doesn’t matter if you’re new to the business or you’re experienced, everyone wants to make more money and that’s what I want to focus on.

Some insight might be useful to mainstream businesses that use sex in their marketing or want to apply what we do to a different sector.

In this first post, I want to address the most important question for anyone entering the adult industry for the first time; what you need to know and think about before you get started.

The porn industry is incredibly diverse and there’s a place for everyone. It will give you an amazing lifestyle and a good income if you do it right. If you’ve already made your mind up and want to get started then check out my guide on how to become a pornstar.

But you can also get it wrong. The very worst thing to do would be to rush in, make mistakes and harm your earning potential or even regret doing it at all by damaging your reputation in a way that cannot be repaired. So if you haven’t made your mind up yet. Read this and think carefully first.

Why do you want to be in the porn industry?

Before you start working in porn it’s so important to think about why you want to do it and if reality matches your expectations. In this first section, I will outline some of the reasons people are attracted to the porn industry and try to give you a realistic outline of what to expect.

Lots of money

Before I started in porn I imagined it would be like Boogie Nights: cocaine, sports cars duffle bags full of cash. I thought that just by making a few porn videos I’d have instant riches.

I was so wrong. There are definitely some lucky people and natural talents that make a lot of money quickly and easily. But like any scalable business, the Pareto principle applies so the majority of the money is made by a small number of people.

If you think you will get rich fast by simply taking your clothes off on camera or making some low quality porn videos, then this business is going to be very disappointing.

To make life changing money most people will have to work harder, faster and smarter than their rivals. It’s ultra competitive. But there are definitely riches to be had if you are prepared to be creative and put the work in.

To be provocative

Some people might want to challenge religious, societal or some other moral values. If you have a bigger reason for doing porn than simply making money, you will probably be much happier with the results. Doing porn simply to be provocative is as good a reason as I can think of.

Plus I find this natural passion can sustain you through tough times until you start to make serious money.

Exhibitionist

Let’s be real, anyone with a public social media profile loves attention. It’s addictive, it can be validating, it’s intoxicating. The porn industry is a pretty reliable way to get it.

If you want complements, if it’s a turn on to know people are viewing your sexualised content, then this could be a satisfying career choice for you.

That doesn’t mean that just because you get nude or perform some sexual acrobatics on camera than you will get lots of attention. It’s a lot more complicated than that to get popular for most people.

It’s also not without drawbacks. You need to have thick skin. Try reading the comments and feedback pornstars receive on different platforms. Much of it is incredibly positive and supportive.

But it can also be brutal. Try putting yourself in the pornstars shoes and try to imagine if you could handle the comments.

The lifestyle and to be your own boss

Although owning a Ferrari is not so common in the porn industry. It can still be an awesome way to live.

It’s incredibly flexible so if you never want to leave your bedroom, you can do that. Likewise, it gives you incredible opportunities to travel and to meet some of the most interesting and liberal people on the planet.

I know plenty of people that don’t make so much money in the porn industry but they enjoy the freedom it gives them. They like focusing on their other interests: their art, their family or maybe they just like lots of free time to hit the gym.

The point is, they are independent and don’t need to work so hard to live a good life.

You want a side hustle

I got started in the business because I wanted an extra income. I think it’s possible to do some porn related jobs part time.

But personally I found starting a porn site too much for work for a side gig and I had to go full time in the first few months. Like anything, you get a lot more from it if you’re dedicated.

Unless you’re prepared to commit to it full time, I’d say you should think carefully about whether the specific area of porn you want to get involved with will work as a side gig. Some things like webcam can work really well as a side hustle which is why so many students do it.

But most areas need you to be full time or at least available for work at any moment if you want to be successful. If you can’t commit fully commit you’re probably not going to do so well.

For the sex

Most people think getting paid to have orgasms is pretty damn cool but porn sex can be hard work. It’s just not the same as real life sex, it’s actual work. Making good content is really hard to do. Even if it’s with your genuine romantic partner, the whole experience and chemistry can change completely when sex is planned and filmed. Remember, in porn you are fucking for the camera, not for yourself.

If you’re a guy and want to be performer because you’re not getting much sex in your real life, I’d suggest seriously rethinking: do you want more sex or do you want to do porn? They are very different things. There are easier ways of getting more sex than getting into porn.

Overall, being passionate about sex, trying different partners, experiences and activities, is a healthy mindset to have for anyone in the porn business.

Travel and a glamorous lifestyle

There are definitely some people at the top of the industry – performers as well as business people – that get to drive fast cars, travel in private jets and all of that sweet stuff.

But it’s incredibly rare. Most people can live as a digital nomad which is pretty awesome. You will find your life is dominated by trying to find fast WiFi if you do this. But it’s pretty fun.

Many will get to get to travel to some industry events and conferences. They may get to travel to different porn cities for shooting like LA, Las Vegas and Miami in the US and Prague, Budapest and Barcelona in Europe.

But for the most part that will be it. It’s rare to have shoots outside of the main hub cities.

The lifestyle is also pretty normal. Most people live in normal houses, drive normal cars and wear normal clothes.

It’s not like being a mainstream celebrity. There won’t be an endless supply of freebies and luxuries. Most brands simply won’t want to associate with you, at best you will get the occasional free t-shirt or sex-toy.

Your life can still look pretty glamorous at times but remember that porn is entertainment. It’s a fantasy. Instagram influencers don’t live a life as glamorous as it appears and neither do most people in porn.

Pornstars don’t really live in the big mansions and stylish apartments you see in movies. Anything luxurious you can live in, drive, sail or fly can be rented for the day.

Just try to have realistic expectations. Porn is way less lucrative than than mainstream media. If you’re expecting to be treated like a TV or movie star, think smaller. YouTubers make more money and usually have a bigger crew on set than most porn productions.

Porn is generally low cost, quickly produced, no rehearsals, no big team, it’s rare to have a good photographer on set, often you will have to apply your own makeup.

On the plus side. It has a really special family-style atmosphere. It’s like hanging out with close friends and with the right attitude you can have so much fun and laughs making content with your porn family.

My advice is to contact some successful people in the porn or webcam industry and find out what their life is really like. Ask what it’s like to be on a typical porn set for a day. Ask a cam girl or OnlyFans model what their typical week looks like. Is that lifestyle exciting for you? Is it an upgrade or no more than you already have? Just go in with realistic expectations.

Protecting your reputation

It sounds obvious but doing porn – even just being caught watching porn – can hurt your reputation.

For me the golden rule is to never ever do anything you would be ashamed of. If you make pornographic content of any type you should always strive be proud of everything you do.

If you have a feeling of pride in your work, it’s unlikely you will run into any trouble. Whenever you get that gut feeling that you might regret something. Just say no. Stop. Don’t do it. Even if you already said yes. Even if you already started making it. Don’t put anything out there that you know you will regret later.

Even now you’ve learned how to protect your reputation it’s worth thinking more about the reputation problems society, family and friends can throw up.

Porn is not anonymous

It seems obvious but some people think they can keep porn a secret from family and friends. With a few minor exceptions, this is impossible.

Some platforms where you can sell individual clips or webcam sites will give you some privacy features like blocking people in your state or country from seeing your content. Or it can appear like only people that pay will see your content which gives you the illusion of control.

The problem is that there is an entire industry based on scraping content from these platforms and recording live cam shows so they can be uploaded to free porn sites like PornHub and Xvideos.

If you take your clothes off on the internet, it will be seen by people that know you eventually. And if you have even a little success it will stay around forever.

The only way to do porn anonymously right now is to hide your face and any distinguishing features entirely. And that will hit your income so hard it’s not worth doing it for most people.

Careers after porn

If you have ambitions in life beyond the porn industry, you should think carefully about how porn might affect your plans.

For most jobs it will have no effect. But it depends on the culture of the industry and country you live in.

Italy for example has elected pornstars into government despite being a sexually conservative country.

I have also known porn models from some countries that have sensitive jobs like teaching children or being social workers. And I know porn models who have been fired from ordinary jobs when their porn career has been discovered. So it’s not always easy to know if it will affect your future career or not.

On the positive side I’d say that if you are really good at something, then working in porn will not be a barrier.

If you get fired from a job or you don’t get a job because of your past porn career, it’s more likely that they just used porn as a convenient excuse to avoid hurting your feelings when they reject you.

Friends and family

If you work in the porn your family and friends will definitely find out. Almost everyone watches porn at least a little bit. And if they don’t then someone they know will do.

The only way to stop them finding out is to not do it.

My experience is that people that love you will support you no matter what. They will be more concerned for your safety than morally judging you.

It will almost always be people you just know rather than actual friends and family that will be judgemental.

When friends and family do find out it could be a huge shock and it may take them some time to accept your new career.

But I’ve found it to be extremely rare for a parent or sibling to disown a son or daughter permanently. But it can happen. People from religious or conservative cultures can be difficult. Specially when they have outdated concepts like “family honour”.

The best advice I can give is to talk to your family and friends about doing porn before you start. If you can’t do that, maybe it’s not the career for you.

It’s much better to see how people react before you start so you have no regrets about your choices later. Plus your family and friends maybe able to offer advice you never thought of. Specially friends, it can be surprising how many people have some experience or know someone that does some kind of sex work.

Brand and image

There is huge competition in the porn industry. A single webcam site could have 50 000 webcam models and there are at least 1.3 million porn sites in the world. And according to rule 34 of the internet there is already a porno of anything you can think of.

It’s almost impossible to be original in the porn industry so your brand and image will be crucial to standing out and being successful.

Some people are lucky and stand out without doing anything special simply because they are rare. For example, if you are from a conservative culture or a country that doesn’t produce many pornstars then you can be wildly popular.

Muslim or Indian pornstars can make waves almost instantly and even transcend porn to become something else, think Sunny Leone or Mia Khalifa.

If you are naturally busty or you look particularly innocent you’re also going to have an easier path to the top.

But most people are going to have to work really hard and be creative instead. Even if you’re very attractive you will find you need to work quite hard to become popular.

The best way to stand out is by embracing who you really are and what makes you you. Try to think carefully about your style. Make sure your clothes and locations are always consistent create a feeling around what kind of person you are.

If you have any negative personality traits, consider hiding them or turning them into a positive. For example, if you struggle with your weight, depression or anything really. Talk openly about it and give your fans advice on dealing with the problem too. Try to create a sense of community where you and your fans all help each other.

To get popular you need to find a way of genuinely connecting with your fans. It’s much like having a relationship. You need to let them know you on a deep level. You want to be a person your fans fall in love with or someone they want to be, not just someone they think is hot and get off to.

Everyone has interests outside of sex, and you should think about how you can leverage your passions to become part of your brand. Everything that makes you unique should be used to create something that really stands out. If you do this successfully you will grow way faster than if you’re just another naked person on the internet.

The truth is that most people in the adult business are pretty lazy when it comes to brand and image. Think more like a pop star and you will be ahead of most of your competition from the very beginning.

Your levels: how extreme will you go?

Porn can include anything from mild nudity through to extreme and what can appear degrading sex acts to some people. It can be beautiful and artistic or it can be visceral and raw.

You should think about what porn you want to make before you start. It’s best not to make something that you feel any shame or regret over.

You will sometimes find you can make more money if you make more extreme porn. Personally I’d say this is a myth. It’s more that there is less competition as your content becomes more extreme so it can be seem easier to make money simply because there are less people willing to go that far.

The important thing is to do what you’re passionate about, to do what you enjoy and have no regrets.

Some scenarios maybe objectionable. They may play to racist or sexual stereotypes that you don’t want to be part of. You might be expected to be submissive and passive when your personality is the opposite.

Really think about how content will appear and fit into your brand and personal values before you make it. If you are working for other people, always check out their content and get full details of the production before you take part.

You should even find out what the content will be called before you do it. At the height of the first wave of Black Lives Matter protests one friend stared in a porn video only to be embarrassed later when he saw it was called Black Cocks Matter!

Always strive to create content that you feel proud of. It will be something that’s incredibly personal to you. Of course you will make mistakes and sometimes content won’t turn out the way you expect but always at least aim to create something you love and love making.

Money

It’s so important to think about money before you get started in the adult business. Careers tend to be short in the porn industry. Life can get in the way and take you away from it.

It’s a bit like being an athlete. You need to make enough money in your short career to last for the rest of your life or at least to fund whatever you do after porn.

There are no pension plans in porn, what you make it all you get. When your income dries up. That’s it.

And it can happen fast. Technology changes, there are always new competitors entering the industry. There is no guarantee today’s success will be replicated forever. So you really need to maximise your income in the time you have.

It’s also true that the porn industry is full of sharks. That’s not to say that most people are not incredibly nice and kind but you will be financially exploited if you are naive.

People tend to be self interested and everyone will look to cut the best deal possible for themselves, not for you. So you must do the same.

How much money can you make in porn?

People always ask me how much money you can make in the porn industry. The answer is that it can be a lot. But most money is concentrated in just a few people’s hands in each area.

I know top webcam models that make over 50 000 USD per month. I know top models on OnlyFans that get over 100 000 USD per week. On the porn side of things, exclusive contracts around the 1 million dollar mark are possible.

But these figures are for people at the absolute top of their game. Most people are going to be average or a little above or below average.

It takes a huge amount of passion, work and luck to get to the top. Some people get there over a period of years, for others it happens almost right away.

As a guide I’d expect the average cam model or OnlyFans model to make 2–3 thousand dollars per month in Europe, possibly double that in the US.

If you get into shooting professional porn, everyone will want to shoot a fresh face a the beginning and you will work almost everyday if you want to. After that it will depend on your personality, popularity and how easy you are to work with.

Your career could drop off pretty quickly if people don’t like you. Average rates of pay for porn for females to do basic boy-girl sex on camera in the America is 1 000 USD and in Europe around 600 USD.

Straight men get paid a lot less than the girls. It’s probably one of the only industries where women are routinely paid more than men. This is why many straight men will do gay porn where rates of pay are higher. But it’s also true that the top straight male talent will be paid more than most females.

In the US things tend to be more professional, your income will be taxed, you will be insured against accidents on set. And in Europe payments are in cash, it’s on your to pay your taxes and in general things are a less professional.

The key thing to think about before you start is if these figures are worth it for you. Would you be happy being average? Do you have the energy, determination and creatively to fight your way to the top?

Where does your money go?

Like any area of the entertainment industry, there is always someone that wants to take a slice of your income in return for some benefit. Some of these people will be worth every penny while others will just be leeches.

Always do your research and compare prices and negotiate when you need to. It’s the only way to avoid a bad deal. Here are some of the angels and demons that will ask you for money at the beginning.

Porn agents

Porn agents will often promise they can make you wealthy and famous. Sometimes it can be true but usually they’re just selling a dream.

It’s very difficult to tell who the future stars will be. The only way is to make some videos and find out. So agents have an incentive to recruit as many models as they can and see what happens as the cream rises.

Typically in America agents will charge the producer a booking fee or they will take a 10 percent cut of your earnings. It’s illegal for them to double dip and take a fee from both producers and models So watch out for this practice. It’s most common for fees to be paid by producers.

In Europe double dipping is standard practice. Typically agents ask for 20% on top for a booking fee and will take 10% from models. This 10% can usually be negotiated away.

Bad agents will also pressure you to do types of work you don’t want to do like anal or more extreme sex – or possibly pressure you into escorting or into pornshoots with private collectors. A private collector usually means an escort client that will film on his iPhone.

If an agent pressures you into into anything, it’s best to find another agent. In America that can be difficult as models usually sign long term contracts but in Europe there are no contracts worth the paper they are written on and you can usually walk away at any time or even have multiple agents.

I can recommend the following agencies in order of preference: Spiegler Girls, ATMLA, Motley Models, OC Modelling, Foxxx Modeling, Nexxxt Level Talent Agency. In Europe Nikkis Models in Prague and Jul Models in Budapest seem to be the best of the limited options available.

Boyfriends & girlfriends

It’s pretty common for people to get started in porn thanks to a boyfriend or girlfriend. Going into business with a partner can be amazing but it can also be incredibly toxic.

The worst case situation is if you are sharing the money but you are not sharing the work. Whatever the agreement you come up with is, it needs to be fair.

If you have a website together you need to decide who owns what. Will you have a contract to cover ownership of any brands?

And the most important thing to discuss is what happens if you break up? Almost every couple breaks up.

In most cases I would say the talent should own the majority of the business and pay their partner a salary for their work. This way if you breakup you can continue to employ the partner or you can replace them.

There are definitely exceptions to this rule. For example, if you are creating a website or wider brand together and you both work full time on the business. This is quite different from helping out with some odd jobs, getting high and playing video games while you do all the work.

If you are starting this as a real business together you should have contracts in place to cover ownership of intellectual property as well as the business itself.

As with all business relationships you really need to decide in advance what happens if you break up or one of you is not doing their fair share of the work or walks away from the business.

It gets incredibly complex to work with a business partner, with a romantic partner it’s even harder.

Business partners

You may get started in porn with a business partner or it might be something you gain as your career grows.

Generally this will revolve around creating a website brand. You might start with your own porn site or you might be offered one at some point in future as you get more popular.

Having your own porn site can be a very good income. And you don’t need to be in all the videos yourself so it can give you a path to an income after porn too.

However, you definitely need some specialist web skills, particularly in the promotion and monetisation areas. And ideally you need some porn industry experience or you need to be able to learn quickly.

It’s not easy finding a good business partner. There are a lot of terribly unsuccessful porn sites and brands out there.

When selecting business partners look for someone that has different skills to you. There is no value in giving a percentage of your profit to someone that just does a job you can easily do yourself.

And shop around. Get potential business partners to show you what they have done before. Force them to show you their financials. If someone doesn’t want to show you their numbers, their numbers probably aren’t very good.

You should also talk to other people they have worked with. Learn everything you can about them. And meet them for coffee or a drink, hang out with them.

You are going to be spending the majority of your life talking to this person so make sure you get on really well. The more research you do here, the better your relationship will be.

Just as with having a boyfriend or girlfriend as a business partner, you need to have contracts and an exit plan for when either of you decides to walk away.

Platforms

Every platform pays a different percentage to models and every platform has it’s own quirks that work or don’t work for different people.

I’d also say some platforms are dishonest and don’t pay out fairly.

There’s a reason why some platforms are huge and have been around a long time. People make a lot of money from them and they trust them.

Some platforms will payout 60–80% while others might just pay just 30%. This is particularly true in webcam. And payouts can be even less if you want to work in a language other than English where there is less competition between platforms.

You’d assume you would always make more money if you get to keep a bigger percentage of the payout. But this isn’t always true. For example, you could webcam on OnlyFans and get 80% of the money or you could broadcast on Streammate and only keep 30–35%.

But Streamate might pay you a much higher income. It will depend how many followers you have on social media and how good you are at promoting your Onlyfans account. The reason Onlyfans can pay you so much is that they don’t put any work into finding paying customers for you.

Whereas streamate will pay affiliates 35% for referring paying customers to their site. So if you’re the sort of person that just wants to focus on making content or doing great webcam shows and you don’t want to put too much work into promotion, then site’s that pay a lower percentage could be more profitable for you.

That said, you can also be an affiliate and get paid for referring paying customers too. So which platform you will make most money on is highly complex. The only way to find out is to do your research and try out all the sites that interest you.

Before you start in porn, make a list of all the platforms you’d like to try. Watch the other models and how they make money. And try them all before you make a decision on which ones work best for you.

Remember that over time things can change. So never be married to just one platform, always keep experimenting and try to follow the money.

Working for porn productions vs independent porn

This is such an important part of your business strategy if you’re new to porn.

It didn’t used to be so crucial. When I started there were no good ways of protecting your content against piracy and getting organic web traffic was a slow process. So it made sense to simply flood the internet with video previews, ignore piracy and get your brand in front of as many people as possible.

These days you can digitally fingerprint all your videos cheaply by using services like DigiRegs.

That means if you want to control your content fully, now you can. You can make sure that your content is only available in the places you decide is ok.

So giant sites like PornHub and Xvideos who have profited from stolen content for years can’t make use of this as easily as they could in the past. Now they need to get your content legitimately and they will pay you for it.

That puts a lot of power in the hands of producers. And if you are just entering the industry, who do you want to have that power? Will it be just you that makes money from your image and brand or will you share it with someone else?

Personally I’ve found the most profitable way to work is to control all of the content that uses your personal image. Make everything yourself and own everything directly. Make sure it’s you that decides where your content is distributed and sets the prices.

It’s a lot of work to promote your content but it’s not impossible at all. The most valuable thing in porn is exclusive content from an exclusive model.

If your content is only available from you directly or via your Onlyfans and other platforms, then nearly all the dollars made from your content will flow directly back to you.

The alternative is to work as a model for other porn companies like Vixen, Brazzers et al. This can be a seductive idea because it means you might grow social media followers faster and your fame will grow quickly with each video they publish.

The problem is that big porn brands will distribute you videos all over the internet for free. Your videos will be everywhere.

This means that when someone is thinking about joining your OnlyFans (or your website or whatever you prefer to use to sell your content), they will think twice and maybe just watch a video for free instead.

Most people pay for porn when they’re horny. If they can get off to your content for free, they will usually choose that instead of paying for your content.

Of course, there are many other reasons why someone would join your OnlyFans, some users may want to see a very specific video niche or costume and some users may want that interactivity.

However, in my experience people that do porn for other productions usually make a lot less money than people that work exclusively for themselves.

There are times when it’s beneficial to work for other productions. This is usually when you just can’t or don’t want to put the effort into promoting your own content. Promotion is a lot of work. And some people just never get into the rhythm of doing it.

If you’re like this then you should consider at least working for some of the bigger productions as it’s a good way of telling the world you exist.

I should also point out that this is where it could be good to have a business partner or an assistant to help you promote. It’s fairly standard practice to pay someone 20 per cent of your income to manage your OnlyFans and other channels for you.

Managing a personal website is more complicated and you would likely need to give up a bigger proportion than 20 per cent.

Public relations

All businesses need someone to reach out to the press and raise their profile. The porn business has a lot of specialist PR agencies.

They will write press releases and send them to journalists who will hopefully publish your story.

The problem is that most PR agencies in porn are charlatans or they would have mainstream clients too.

Typically they will take your money and write boring press releases that don’t appeal to anyone. They won’t even have a topical angle.

You might be happy because you will see your story in industry blogs or media. But this is not worth the money as you can do this yourself.

The adult industry media like Xbiz and AVN are very supportive. They are more than happy to publish news from you and help you boost your profile in the industry. You don’t need a PR representative to do that.

You need a PR representative to raise your profile in mainstream media. When you’re in mainstream newspapers, magazines and blogs it can have an incredible impact on your sales.

In the adult space the only person I have seen that gets results is Brian Gross. He used to work in the music industry and now specialises in porn PR. He’s more expensive than most but it’s worth it.

Sexual health

It should go without saying that sex contains some risk. How much risk depends on your education and culture. Some people seem to think STIs are way more dangerous and prevalent than they really are.

While others seem to have had virtually no sex education and are oblivious to the risks. This is particularly true of people that think condoms protect you against all STIs. They don’t.

It’s in your interest to become an expert on sexual health before you start working. Read as much as you can. Talk to your local sexual health clinic or charity. They’re extremely helpful and can explain relative risks of different practices and tell you what to expect from treatments.

If you are working with multiple partners, you will almost certainly catch something at some point. This is just realistic.

As a performer and new member of the porn industry it’s your duty to protect your own health and that of others in the business.

The professional industry in the US and Europe has a system of controlled production shutdowns when something serious shows up in a sexual health test. They have an excellent track record of performer safety.

But these days the majority of people work on the amateur side of the industry where testing, standards and communication is far less rigorous.

As a rule, you should only work with people with a valid STI test from the last two weeks. And the test should be from a professional lab that understand the needs of the professional porn industry. Most testing provided for free by governments and charities often isn’t up to a high enough standard for the porn industry.

In the USA I highly recommend Talent Testing Service as they have nationwide coverage and they are not political; they always put performer safety first.

In Europe it varies by country and city. Please contact local professional performers on Twitter and they can point you to the best local sexual health labs.

Currently you should also be tested for COVID-19 before you work with anyone. It’s the responsible thing to do.

If you are a male performer, you might find that you simply cannot get hard without a little help from a chemist.

Personally I think if you can’t get hard, you shouldn’t be working in porn. But many people do. So here is what you need to know.

Viagra, Cialis and other drugs do make it easier to get hard. But ultimately it’s more of a placebo effect and it will just give you more confidence.

When you can’t get hard on a porn set it’s usually a mental rather than physical block. Having sex on camera is incredibly stressful and most people can’t handle it.

You should know that these drugs are designed for people with erectile dysfunction. They are not supposed to be taken recreationally or to save your porn career. You could even develop erectile dysfunction later in life or have problems with other side effects by using these drugs when you don’t actually need them.

A more extreme drug is caverject. It’s the only way to guarantee getting hard on a porn set. It’s a drug you inject into your penis to make it hard.

It is not safe and has many side effects. It’s really not designed for healthy people to use. But many people in porn do use it. If it’s something you do decide to use you should make yourself aware of all the safety information first.

And you should read about the long term side effects of using it. There are people in porn that cannot get hard without a mechanical aid because they used this drug for so long.

It can have serious long term consequences for your erection and sex life. So think seriously about whether a porn career is really for you if you have to resort to using a drug like this.

Relationships

Before you start your porn career you should think about how it could impact your current or future relationships.

If you’re currently in a relationship, can it handle you having sex with other people? Can your relationship handle you becoming well known and people asking you for a selfie in the street?

It’s a big change to your life. And your relationship right now may not survive your full career. So you may need to find a new partner after some time.

Generally I’ve found it’s not any easier or more difficult to find a date when you do porn. Some people will be put off because of it but many will be attracted to you because of it.

The hard part is finding someone that simply doesn’t care and just likes you for you regardless of your job.

If you’re female you may also find that many guys you date can be intimidated when it comes to having sex, they might feel inadequate compared the the guys you work with and it could lead to more disappointing first nights than usual.

You might find some partners kind of assume you are a walking bag of STIs because of stereotypes about sex workers. In this case they usually just need some education and time to get to know you before you jump into bed.

But sadly, if you do porn, some people are going to think you’re dirty even though you’re tested and more likely to be free of STIs than the average person.

Being a sex worker really does have an impact on your relationships. But it’s not all negative. It actually makes it much easier to tell who really loves and accepts you as you are and who just wants a bit of fun.

And by working in porn you will learn a lot of lessons fast that I find can make relationships stronger. You will definitely become a better communicator for example.

In this blog I highlighted a lot of negative aspects to working in the porn industry. That’s not to say that working in the porn industry is bad. It’s an amazing career. I never regretted one second. Most of my industry friends have loved almost every moment and it keeps getting better.

In my six years in the industry I’ve lived a life most people can only dream of. I just think that you should think about the potential negative aspects before you make a decision.

If you read this and you still want to join. You are going to have one hell of a fun life and now you know for sure you won’t have any regrets.
